about

This title of this song was inspired by Leo Tolstoy's short story, 'The Death of Ivan Ilyich'.

The concept of the song is my attempt at what Sanctification looks like. Dying to self in light of Christ's death. The Brains and Beauty behind the Horror of the Cross.

lyrics

VERSE 1

It was all a dream, Eve and Adam never ate from the tree
Life in the garden roses and bumble bees
No ozone layer concerns and skin cancers
This is paradise, just ballerina dancers
Every question one poses to God there's an answer
This is paradise, both hands orange fantas
White hursts ride around bumping California love
But the plan from the start, Jesus' blood?
Is it safe to assume we were set up to fall
By the same mind behind maple leaves in the fall
Ephesian's 1:5 how else can one interprete
That this was His will and the fall was deliberate
So I'm just a puppet on a string
With the puppet master playing all the pongs and the pings

CHORUS

Death and regrets holding hands
But that aint forever 'cause God's got a plan
Crushed on the Cross there's a boo boo on his head
The accusations of the ruler of this age now dead
The tombs empty, death has lost its sting
Fall turns to winter and winter to spring

VERSE 2

Can it be I haven't lived as I should have
Running for the riches and away from these torn rags
How can it be that life is so senseless
A star on the field but always keeping warm benches
My cars parked, how it get dented?
You set me up to fail so yes unrepentant
Disease, pain, suffering and then death?
Where's my tux, top hat, and cane, Lloyd Christmas fresh
I remember walking up and down the stairs at age nine
asking why do we die?
to no reply.

BRIDGE

I wish I would have known from the start
Inside a stone shaped like a heart
Forgive me Lord, I've sinned again
Pave my path with grace like Boyz II Men

CHORUS

VERSE 3

Discipline is love, here comes the white hurst
Hebrews chapter 12, the sixth verse
There's a light I see at times a joke
Running through life mirrors and smoke
Unthinkable right, life without death
Poetry and no chess
Spirit and no flesh
The pursuit of joy to my end of days
that's a life worth living, wouldn't you say?
Brooklyn uprock to lifes earthquakes
Life conceives death, how much a birth ache
Death conceives life, what a paradox
like it entails death to enjoy this curry ox
